The PT 809 was built on a polymer frame with an integrated light metal chassis system. This handgun is a SA/DA (single action/double action) platform featuring an external hammer, safety, and decocking lever.Like several Taurus pistols, the 809 also offers Taurus’s “Double Strike” capability, which allows the hammer to automatically reset with a misfire so that the shooter can pull the trigger a second time for a follow-up strike on the misfired round.
Taurus opted to discontinue the PT-809 series in 2017 when they introduced the TH series of pistols.

From a size standpoint, the PT809 is considered a “full size” handgun, and it’s about the same size as a Glock 17.
The most popular Taurus PT 809 holster styles that we sell are outside the waistband holsters (OWB holsters), although we also sell a few inside the waistband holster models for the 809 as well.
The Taurus PT809 9mm has all the features you would expect on the most advanced semi-auto pistol in the world. It is derived from the successful “Taurus OSS” pistol, which was designed for the U.S Armed Forces, but adds an external hammer that has been requested by many.
The Taurus 800 Series is equipped with “Strike Two” capabilities. If you have a hard primer and the gun misfires, the 800 series sense this and automatically gives you instant “Strike Two” capability by resetting the trigger for automatic double action re-strike. No need to do anything else; simply pull the trigger. Research indicates a 93% or better chance the round will fire on re-strike. When it fires, the 800 will automatically revert to single action by itself. If it falls on a dead primer, simply manually recharge and keep going.

The slide of the PT-809 is machined out of carbon steel and available in black Tenifer and stainless variants, and features front and rear slide serrations, a loaded chamber indicator, and genuine dovetailed Novak three-dot sights; tritium night sights are also optionally available.
The 4-inch, chrome-lined barrel is also manufactured out of stainless steel; it is a fairly conventional barrel, featuring an outer stainless finish and six right-handed grooves with a 1-in-10″ rifling pitch. taurus pt809 holster
The PT-809 feeds through detachable double-stack metal magazines with a well-pronounced black polymer buttplate; the standard magazine capacity is 17+1 rounds, although 10-rounds and 15-rounds magazines are available for those jurisdictions where capacity restrictions apply.
The Taurus PT-809 truly stands out for both features and quality on the vast market of budget-priced handguns for target shooting, service, personal defense, and home or property protection. The Taurus PT-809 semi-automatic pistol features a fairly conventional SA/DA trigger, with an external hammer and a firing pin protected by an automatic safety against accidental discharges, and a Browning-style tilting barrel locking system. pt809 taurus
The Taurus PT-809 is built around a polymer frame with a light metal chassis, offering a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny railed dust cover for tactical accessories; Taurus’ signature, black neoprene rubberized design dubbed the “Ribber Grip”, this time coming with interchangeable backstraps; and a slot on the grip to activate the quintessential Taurus Security System(link is external).
On some markets, the Taurus PT-809 is addressed to as a “Tactical Modular Pistol” – this due to the fact that the design was initially conceived with modularity in mind. taurus pt809 holster
Four versions of this platform existed overall: the PT-809; the PT-838 chambered in .380 ACP, currently available only in South America; the .40-caliber PT-840; and the PT-845 chambered in .45 ACP. When the platform was launched, in 2008, the pistols were meant to share the same frame, and be convertible to any of the available calibers simply by changing the magazine and the slide-barrel assembly, as originally planned for the PT-24/7 OSS as well.
